She has achieved international recognition for her art and won awards for her original watercolor paintings. These art awards include the prestigious Antiguan Art Society's Annual Awards and the Supreme Award for Excellence in the Islands Arts Quest Competition. She has had many highly successful one-person art shows in Caracas, Venezuela, Anguilla, St. Lucia and Antigua as well as group art shows in Guadeloupe, Anguilla and Santo Domingo. She has also shown her art work at the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and has a permanent display at the Woods Center Artist Gallery in Antigua.

She recently was awarded the Gourmand Award for ‘Best Illustrations’ in her ‘Cool Caribbean Cookery Book’ at the Gourmand World Cookbook Awards, held recently at the London Book Fair, Olympia. It is the first time an Antiguan has won this award. Gilly’s award winning book was up against tough competition from 21 countries and was also the only book where content and art work were from the same author.
